Hi everyone,
I've just joined the syntorial community and it's with great pleasure that I'm discovering this magnificent world of sound design.
I'm a beginner and I'm writing this message because I'm having a lot of trouble distinguishing between the saw waveform and the THIN pulse (and only the thin one) waveform. For me they sound the same... I've been stuck on the same quiz for two days without being able to recognize them perfectly. The exercise is still very complicated with low pass filters.
I wanted to know what your methods and tips are for recognising them

Maybe itβs more an headphones issue. I changed them recently and things got better. Still unable to hear some frequenciesβ¦ but I donβt want to spend too much.
I had the same problems. I had difficulty hearing differences in a couple different areas. I caved in and purchased the Sennheiser HD 6XX on Massdrop since they're basically a $500 pair of HD650's with minor physical differences for $199, and it's been an astronomical change for me. Not just in Syntorial but in all music. I'm going back to songs and hearing things I never knew existed in songs, it's wild.
It was the most I ever spent on headphones, but I wish I had done it sooner.

This is tricky. Another thing you can do is play lower notes. The difference between the two waveforms is much more noticeable in a lower range. This doesn't help so much with the first Quiz, but will help in the Challenges, and in real life.
The difference I listen for is that very subtle layer of "hollowness" in the pulse. Saw has a more full-bodied tone, thin pulse sounds a little more "brittle".
