Hi all -
See above link. when the song starts, there is this synth melody that plays along with the guitar. I'm trying to replicate it in Serum (see attached patch!) but I feel like it's missing some tapey grittiness to it or...something. any suggestions on how I can tweak my Serum patch to get it to sound closer? thank you!!!

got it! iβll try that. itβs prob not a synth but just trying to approximate the sound. how about for the other two sounds i linked above? any thoughts would be helpful.

It may not even be a synth. Perhaps a Rhodes or Wurly, drenched in reverb?
But with the synth, I would remove the second oscillator altogether, switch to a 24 dB filter, and bring up the Cutoff until you get the right amount of roundness, bathe it in reverb, and turn it down so it melts into the background.

yes! sorry, by βplaying along,β i meant playing at the same time as the guitar. but no, itβs not the same line, as you noticed!

I don't hear a synth melody playing the same line as the guitar. I do hear a really quiet little keyboard or synth melody playing a different melody in the background. Is that what you're referring to?

Thanks Joe! See attached.
The sound attached here just sounds too..."synthy" (really can't find a better word to describe it) compared to the sound at the beginning of Whe I Wake Up.
That same sorta sound is also used in these songs:

It would be great if you could give me pointers on those two as well. I'm gearing up for some live performances!
