This is a creepy horror sound I wanted to recreate for one of my songs but could not. It is the opening sound you hear from Blood PC Game soundtrack, "Unholy Voices" track. You may find the soundtrack in this link
It is the sound just at the beginning of "Unholy Voices", which is the third track in the soundtrack (at the 5:56 mark). It is like a wind instrument. But it also has a bit string and vocal like qualities. I am not even sure if it can be replicated via a synthesizer. It probably is purely sample based.
In any case, your thoughts on it and any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Blood was made in the "Build Engine", the same used by Duke Nuken. Not all PCs from that time could play audio from the CDs, so some games had the music also on MIDI files, to be played by whatever synth the PC had on the sound card. Because of that, musicians used sample based sound modules, like Roland SC-55, to write the music as MIDI and render the WAV files to the CD audio.
You can search for this game original MIDI files, and there are emulations of Roland SC-55 used on projects like DosBox. The samples are usually collected on a pack called soundfont. Some moders even change the soundfont to change the music. I will not post links here because this is grey area copyright.

I think youβre better off taking a sample approach there. It has a very organic quality to it that you might be able to replicate on a synth, but will get much closer with a sample. To me that sounds like a bowed eastern string instrument. Maybe not even processed that much. Look at "world" or "eastern" libraries and youβll probably find something close.
