3LW - No More (Four Tet Remix): Bassline question

Open

Hi Joe,

Four Tet's been playing out this new tune a lot recently, yet to be released - it uses an accapela version of the song No More by 3LW. Best version I could find was this post Four Tet made on Instagram, a video of his Ableton project:

My question is about the bass - when artists make these kinds of basslines, do they sample resample separate sounds from the synth and then piece these together? Sounds like there's a variety of short and long notes with different filter envelopes; is this more likely to be automated on the MIDI clip or just sampled to an audio track from whatever soft/hard synth he's using?

And any advice on how to go about getting the sound?

Thanks

I think in this case it's simply MIDI playing a synth. I don't even think the filter envelope settings are changing, because the long notes are getting brighter than the short notes.
